Do you have long weekend to spare? Get to Gouna, quick!

Whether you’re flying in (Only a short four-hour flight from many European destinations) or driving from Cairo, El Gouna is worth the travel, and an absolute delight!  Although we fully recommend at least a week in this beautiful town; you can pretty much do some of the main sites and restaurants in a whirlwind weekend if you cram it in quick enough. and of course, if you are not too partial to your sleep! Assuming you’ve arrived late on the Thursday night, we’ll run you through the best of the best for a long weekend:

Friday Morning

09:00 AM

Time for a coffee and a croissant at Seventh Star for breakfast. You simply have to start your weekend at one of the most iconic spots of El Gouna. The view of the Abu Tig Marina Filled with Super Yachts is enough to make anyone detach from their heavy lifestyles back home and the patisserie chef makes the best breakfast pastries in town.

11:00 AM

A day at Moods Beach Club. Moods is a must when visiting in the Abu Tig Marina. Fridays are for unwinding and chilling, and where best than at the very edge of the Red Sea! Sunbeds overlooking the Marina and out to sea. With waiter service to your comfortable sunbed; awesome cocktails and chilled beats pouring over the beach area, it’ll set you up for the rest of the weekend. Don’t forget your sun cream and lots of water. Hydration is key when you’re sunning it up!

05:00 PM

Back to the Hotel and out of the sunshine for a little while to recover and recoup. Shower and get dressed for your first proper evening in Gouna.

07:00 PM

Dinner time. It’s the weekend and there’s so many wonderful restaurants to choose from in Abu Tig, however stopping in at the exclusive Pier 88 for dinner is simply a must. With the open kitchen based right in the middle of the restaurant you can watch the chefs at work as you wait. The homemade breads whilst waiting for dinner are really quite special, the menu is Italian influenced and well worth stopping for.

10:00 PM

To carry on your Abu Tig evening experience we recommend a full-on cocktail extravaganza at the Bartender Bar, where the list of cocktail choices is endless! Watch the owner Ray, and his team dazzle you with their “flare” and produce their signature cocktails right in front of your eyes as you relax on high chairs surrounded by the coolest furniture. Note that we’re not taking any responsibility for how you feel in the morning though!

Saturday Morning

09:00 AM

Why not try a traditional Egyptian breakfast from Zomba in Downtown? Hidden away on the back street between Kafr and the main drag. It’s cheap and cheerful but the best falafel and fool in town. It will set you up for the day ahead, which is exactly what you’re going to need!

11:00 AM

Fancy something a little different? Head up to Sharm Air just north of Mangroovy Beach and try Ultralighting. You can choose from a fifteen or twenty-five-minute piloted tour of El Gouna and its coastline from the sky. It is a truly is out of this world experience, watching the sea and sky go by and varying colours of the coastline is something you’ll only ever see once in a lifetime. We recommend booking in advance.

01:00 PM

After viewing Gouna from the sky there’s only one way to go… No wind days mean getting on a boat! This is El Gouna, and beautiful places like Bayoud exist only a twenty-minute boat ride away from the shore. Many boats dock up for the afternoon at the shallow sand flats where you can stand in the water and chill and snorkel in the sunshine. You can choose to visit Bayoud via companies such as Island Hoppers and rent your own private boat, or head out on the Ocean Diva Catamaran on a social outing, who also provide the chance to snorkel with dolphins most days.

06:00 PM

Back to the Hotel for a shower and a quick sit down out of the heat.

08:00 PM

It’s time to head down to Downtown to mix it up a little! There’s plenty of food and drinks choice including the Infamous Irish Pub and Jobo’s Sports Bar; both long standing establishments in the Gouna district. The Swiss House is worth visiting for their amazing cheese and meat fondues, the White Elephant Thai for your sweet and sour mix or even the Athena Greek Taverna restaurant for an authentic Greek experience. After you’ve suitable filled your boots we recommend a nice walk around the bazaars, it’s a lovely way to spend your evening and you find yourself haggling for a bargain. It’s expected!

11:00 PM

If you’re still in the mood to party, why not pop back across to the Abu Tig Marina via one of the Tuxi network; a simple a fun way to get around. In the middle of the Marinas is Aurora, which is the place to be on a Saturday night! Dress it up and party the night away with the glitz and glam of this chilled nightclub that normally hosts famous DJ’s on a weekly basis.

You cannot miss out on a Lazy Breakfast at Malu’s Deli in the New Marina Piazza. Not to be missed, this little gem has arguably the best breakfast in El Gouna and if you’ve been partying it up the night before… it is the place that will lift you into the day! If you’re not a breakfast fan, you must try their signature Salted Caramel Cake; a food lover’s heaven in one slice. Once you’ve had your fill, time to take a wander around the New Marina afterward and be wowed by the picturesque backdrops.

01:00 PM

Grab a Tuc Tuc and head on up to Element Kitesurfing and Water sports Centre. A Previous host of the International Kiteboarding Championships; it’s where all the cool kids go. Relax on their funky beanbags in the sand with a fresh orange juice whilst you watch the Kitesurfers work their magic on the pristine waters. On no wind days, you can rent a stand-up paddleboard and create your own journey across the waters, create perfect photographic memories to make everyone jealous!

08:00 PM

A chill down Sunday in El Gouna means only one thing… Curry! The Tandoor Restaurant is based on the piazza in front of the Ali Pasha Hotel and holds stunning views across the marina, especially at twilight. It is the only Indian restaurant in Gouna, but it stands alone for its quality; the curries hold mind blowing flavours, this is mostly due to the fact the Chef hails from Mumbai and gives you the full genuine Indian experience. Try the Onion Pakoras and the Tandoor BBQ meats – you will not be disappointed!

10:00 PM

Just along the road from the Tandoor is the awesome funky Rush Sports Lounge. Owned by the infamous Radio DJ Safi, you always need to visit for a bit of kooky fun on your last night. Hailing their very own Karaoke night on a Sunday which gets busier and busier as the night goes on. If you’re lucky they might be playing an even more fun combination of Karaoke – “Helioke” – Karaoke on breathable helium. It’s got to be seen to believed but we can guarantee you’ll be leaving the bar laughing and on a high.

This is only a basic snapshot of what really goes on in Gouna. There’s plenty more, with each week changing event and weather dependent. Book your long weekend now and take a chance on one of the best weekends of your life!
